I'm thinking about creating an inquiry based lesson on how popular protests were organized in the pre-social media and internet era for grades 6-12. In my head, I would need people who feel comfortable/have expertise writing up 300 word summaries of what that looked like (if known) for the following (this list is not exhaustive and is heavily West-centric if you have other/better ideas!):
Wat Tyler
Reformation (or maybe Hussites?)
American Revolution
Haitian Revolution
Peterborough
White Rose
Civil Rights (thinking early days of Birmingham Bus Boycott but also Children's March)
Arab Spring (as the hook to start off the lesson)
Bonus points if you have primary sources (text/images/video for recent)
I have some understanding but am in no way an expert. I'd want something to focus on the printing press (so probably a pamphlet moment).
The goal would be for teachers who want to either look at a thematic examination OR they could start with the hook and then dive into one specific movement as fits their class/content.
Please let me know if you have ideas/suggestions including articles/works to read and/or people to contact who might be willing to help me with this! You can reply here or email me at
