Hello,
I am a third-year student of Hispanic literature in ITESM, but I want to apply and enter a Ph.D. program in the USA in History. I have already searched for advice at my university, but my institution has a very strange situation where it doesn't have a history department, it does have a college of humanities but no history degree or anything of that sort, anyway, I have asked a professor of mine who did his Ph.D. in SMU, I believe in history, his advice so far has been to begin writing for students newspapers or, take the opportunity of the essay I will be making in his class (XIX History) for this semester to refine it enough for it to be able to be published.
My question is, are there any journals that would be willing to publish something that a literature major from Mexico writes? Are there any resources for learning to write for these kinds of publications (other than style guides of specific journals such as The Journal of Southern History)? Any recommendations for a specific Ph.D. program? Which journals should I be reading? Are there any other forums such as this where people involved in learning about history are active?
Thanks.
