Bio

I am a historian of Sixties youth culture, with an emphasis on hippie communities in the American South. Born and raised in Georgia, I earned my BS in history education from Kennesaw State University, and my MA in history from Georgia State University. My master’s thesis, “Slouching Towards Atlanta: The Influence of Churches on Atlanta’s Hippie Community,” investigated the role local church leaders had in shaping the city’s counterculture. I have presented research work on academic blogs and at conferences across the United States. I am currently the book review editor for H-1960s, and working on a project examining the history of Tampa Bay’s hippie community.
