Bio

In August 2013, I received my PhD in Religion from Florida State University. Interested generally in religion and politics, my current research focuses on the relationship between religion and U.S. foreign relations in the early twentieth century. Reformulating the “secularization thesis,” my dissertation “A Peaceful Conquest: Woodrow Wilson, the League of Nations, and the Great War of American Protestantism” uses President Woodrow Wilson as a lens through which we can better understand the religious roots behind the isolationist/internationalist debates of the early twentieth century. More information about my research can be found at http://burnidge.wordpress.com/research/.

Both my research and teaching experience crosses disciplinary boundaries. I've taught Religious Studies courses at Florida State University, Religion and Humanities courses at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and U.S. History surveys at Tallahassee Community College. More information about the courses I've taught can be found at http://burnidge.wordpress.com/teaching/.

In addition to teaching and research, I am involved in an number of professional endeavors. I currently serve as the Copy Editor for _Church History: Studies in Christianity and Culture_, the journal of the American Society of Church History. In 2014, I will serve as the co-chair for the Society of US Intellectual History’s annual meeting. Also, between 2013 and 2015 I will participate in the Religion and US Empire Seminar lead by Tracy Leavelle and Sylvester Johnson and hosted by the Kripke Center at Creighton University.

From time to time, I blog about American Religious History as well as my research and teaching at Religion in American History, Religion in the American West, and the US Intellectual History blog.
