  • 1.  AHA2021-PANEL ON TEACHING-STUDENTS AND HISTORY READING

For AHA 2021, I would like to organize a panel that deals with the challenges that K-16 teachers face when they ask their history students to read a secondary or a primary source.  Some of the issues I would like to address in the session are: Are we aware of all the underlying issues that may prevent our students from doing the readings? Are we taking these issues into account as we assign readings? How can we teach our students to cultivate habits that make them effective readers? How may history teachers serve as models for a type of education that critically approaches the wonders and dangers of the Technological Age, especially when it comes to the "art of reading"?

I am interested in papers that approach these issues from a theoretical perspective as well as presentations that address innovative practices in teaching K-16 students how to read history in the Technological Age.
