For those of you planning to go to the 2017 AHA Annual Meeting in Denver next month, please take a look at the handy online reference guide to teaching and learning sessions and workshops that will be part of the program this year: Teaching and Learning at AHA17.

There are a number of other helpful guides, as well, e.g. for first-time attendees, for speakers, on professional development and career-related programming, which can be accessed from the "Resources and Guides" page.

Finally, for the first time this year, the AHA will have a presentations and open discussions of important topics in the exhibit hall stage. Most of these are teaching related, so see which might be of interest to you! I think this more flexible and potentially informal format has the potential to be a great addition to the regular meeting sessions, so I hope there will be strong turnout this year. You can find the schedule here: https://guidebook.com/guide/78488/list/398539/

In addition to presentations on the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources program, a discussion of recruiting strategies for the undergraduate history major, and recent data from Robert Townsend on career prospects for graduate students, there will be a session with Lendol Calder about the Measuring College Learning project of the Social Science Research Council, and the white paper he and fellow historian Tracy Steffes wrote on the past and future of student learning assessment in history (pdf available). You can find out more about this project, and the related book, Improving Quality in American Higher Education: Learning Outcomes and Assessments for the 21st Century (Jossey-Bass, 2016) on the SSRC website: http://highered.ssrc.org/projects/measuring-college-learning-project/.

    Happy holidays and travel well!
